Volunteer Day at Richmond Hill Food Bank
The ATOM AE team spent time volunteering at the
Richmond Hill Community Food Bank as a way of giving back to those in need during this special time of the year.
The players and a few parent volunteers sorted and stocked the shelves with the canned goods that the team collected and donated, helping to feed families and children with the most basic item in life:
nourishment.
When the team was asked how this volunteer experience made them feel, many players replied:
"This makes me very sad knowing there are kids my age who don't have enough to eat."
"I'm grateful that I have food on the table and I get to play hockey."
"I appreciate what my parents do so I can eat healthy foods every day."
"I'm really thankful for all of the things that I have."
As coaches, our goal is to develop young people using the game of hockey as a tool to teach important life lessons. One of the first lessons we need to teach our kids is "sharing means caring" because when they grow up this will be essential in life and their success.
The Atom AE team not only used this opportunity to give back to the community, but collectively, they made a difference in the lives of the people who will benefit from their volunteer experience.
