We’re back!
After a great summer, I’m always excited this time of year because it means
that hockey season is ramping up! We have a lot of momentum in Richmond Hill
and lots to be excited about.
I’m pleased
to share an update with all of you as we kick-off the season.
House
League has momentum
We are very
encouraged and pleased to share that registration for House League has
increased this season. Our evaluation skates were well attended. Our teams are
balanced, placement letters went out late last week, and our players are ready
to hit the ice!
There
continues to be strong interest in the game, and Richmond Hill will continue to
offer programing. We are exploring some partnerships with Stouffville and
Aurora Minor Hockey at some age groups, which should help make for a fun
experience for our players. Please keep
checking the website as these schedules are being updated as the interlock season
approaches.
Mary
Parkinson Memorial tournament hosts hundreds of teams
Hundreds of
hockey teams were in Richmond Hill as part of the Mary Parkinson Memorial
Hockey Tournament at the AA and A level. Interest and attendance at these early
season tournaments is growing. Our own Jaguar teams competed in all age and
talent groups.
Great news,
our U15AA team won the tournament and many teams did very well. The new open
borders policy has now been tested for the first time. As expected, there was a
decent amount of movement and it will take a few years to settle. I am
confident in the quality of our program and what we have to offer. What we’re
seeing so far is that many more players are choosing to stay in Richmond Hill
and we’re attracting others, compared to those who are leaving to play
elsewhere.
Office Team
We are very
pleased to welcome Cory Woron to our office team. Cory spent more than two
decades on-air as commentator at TSN. He’s also served on the board with the
Markham Waxer organization and has been involved in minor hockey for a long
time. Cory joins the team alongside Nick Solakis and Theresa Bianchi.
I’m looking
forward to a fun season in Richmond Hill. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you
have any questions or comments. We’re here for you and together we will grow
the game in Richmond Hill.
Sincerely,
Steve Ley
President
Richmond
Hill Hockey Association
